Cranes (Winches)

According to the ability of their moving directions, the winches can be classified in three groups:

  • The first group has only two moving directions. Up and down in vertical direction.(Stationary lifting devices, goods lifts).
  • The second group has four moving directions. In addition to the up and down moving directions, they have the ability of moving in right and left directions along the bridge girder or girders. (Monorails and wire rope hoists with cats).
  • The third group has six moving directions. In addition to the four moving directions of the second group, they have also forward and backward longitudinal movements (bridge girder movements) along the crane hole by means of end trucks (Single or double girder overhead bridge cranes, single or double girder gantry or portal cranes). The end trucks can either be top running end trucks or under slung end trucks. The jib cranes can also be considered in this group, since in addition to four movements of the second group, they have also the ability of rotation in 270° or 180°.

The main parts of Electrical Overhead Traveling Cranes (E.O.T. Cranes):

  • Hoisting unit (chassis, hoisting and traveling motors, gearboxes, drum, wire rope, wire rope pulleys, cat wheels and hook )
  • Bridge girder or girders (bridge construction, connection to end trucks, cat rails)
  • End trucks (bridge traveling motors, gear boxes, bridge wheels, connections to girder)
  • Runways (columns, runway construction and bridge rails)
  • Electrical and brake system (energy supply systems, Insulated Conductor Systems, busbar, festoon system, electrical circuits, crane control circuits, pendant operation, frequency converters, electrical panels and brakes)

The main parts of gantry (portal) cranes are:

  • Hoisting unit
  • Girder or girders
  • End trucks
  • Hinged and fixed legs
  • Rails and/or  runway and rail
  • Electrical and brake system

The main parts of jib cranes are:

  • Hoisting unit
  • Rotating arm
  • Fixed column
  • Electrical and brake system

Regarding to their usage, cranes can be called as shipyard cranes, automated cranes, container cranes, power plant cranes, standard industrial cranes, standard hoists. For special purposes; engineered cranes, engineered hoists, custom cranes, special cranes and specialty cranes are designed and produced.

Regarding to the construction type, cranes can be top running double girder or single girder top runner cranes and cat type hoist units (traveling wheels are on the rails), or under running cranes, under running bridge cranes, under slung cranes and monorails (wheels are on bottom flange, near two sides of I beams).
